We’re halfway through Winter here in the Southern Hemisphere and I’m loving it. Today I’m discussing my Winter beauty essentials. These products will get you through the chilly weather with your beautiful skin looking its very best!
Hydrating skin care products are an absolute must-have in Winter. I recommend incorporating an oil or hydrating serum into your skin care routine if you aren’t already. I really love rosehip oil as it deeply hydrates skin while also brightening skin tone and reducing pigmentation. This Winter I have been using the Intense Formulas Face Serum*, which I talked about in my Weekly Skin Treatments post. I also love the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask, which is also mentioned in that same post.
You cannot neglect the rest of your skin either! Use body oils (Sukin does a lovely body oil – I also love Bio-Oil) or cream moisturisers (my favourites are from Jergens) on the rest of your body every day. I use Lush Cosmetics Helping Hands hand cream every single night as well, to fight off chilblains and cracked skin. I talk about this product more in my Evening Skin Care post.
Sometimes the thought of getting out of the toasty shower only to stand around rubbing moisturiser all over your body in the cold just isn’t appealing. For those occasions, I love an in-shower body conditioner. Lush Cosmetics do a fabulous one that smells like roses. Nivea also do a couple that are affordable and accessible.
I love a dewy complexion pretty much year-round, but especially so in Winter. My skin is more on the dry side, so using matte products only accentuates that dryness. I love using cream products to achieve a fresh, glowing look. A liquid illuminator, like the Josie Maran Argan Enlightenment Illuminiser, can be mixed in with your foundation or moisturiser to give your complexion a healthy glow. Cream highlighters like those in the Sleek Precious Metals palette can be added to the high points of the face for some extra sparkle.
I love the Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm in Robust Rhubarb for a sheer wash of creamy colour on your cheeks. The Nars Liquid Laguna Bronzer or Benefit Dew The Hoola are also amazing and hydrating for the Winter months (but pale girls be wary, as these can tend to be a little orange if you go in too heavy handed).
If you’re a fan of powder products and just have to use them, then I suggest trying a cream/powder hybrid product like the Colourpop Super Shock formula. I have raved about the Here Comes The Sun face duo on my Instagram and also in my June Favourites. Colourpop have plenty of single face products as well, so there really is a shade for everyone.
In a similar sentiment to above – I ditch the matte liquid lipsticks in the cooler months. Well, not completely, but I certainly don’t use them as often in Winter. My lips are already dry and not looking their best, so I prefer something with a gloss finish to make my lips look healthier. My all time favourite lip balm/gloss is the Lanolips Tinted Balms, which I mentioned in my Morning Skin Care post. These balms are super hydrating and are slightly tinted and very glossy. They look amazing on the lips and I love them.
