It’s finally Spring in the Southern Hemisphere! I usually really love Winter, but this year I am embracing the warmer weather! This post is my Spring Beauty Edit: my must-have, essential beauty products for Spring time.
Lighter coverage (with SPF!)
I won’t lie, I prefer a lighter coverage year round, but if there’s any time to really embrace the lighter coverage, it’s Spring time! Let your freckles peak through and opt for a more natural coverage. Of course, if you prefer a full coverage, go for it, do you. Personally, I think Spring is the perfect time to swap heavy foundations for BB creams or tinted moisturiser with SPF. The days are getting longer, meaning the UV rays are out for longer too, so sun protection is a must.
It’s not too warm in Spring time, so ditch the powders if you can and embrace a dewy, natural finish – let your skin breathe (and then go in with the blotting papers and powders come scorching Summer if you’re so inclined).
My all-time favourite products for a lighter coverage with SPF are the Chi Chi Cosmetics BB and CC creams. I have raved about these for so long and have used them for years. I highly recommend them. They offer a lovely amount of coverage, are packed full of great anti-ageing and protecting ingredients, and contain SPF 30, which is awesome.
Again, I embrace blush year round (where do you think I got my name from, if not my love of blush and sassy attitude?!). If you shy away from blush… don’t! Embrace it, especially in Spring time! In my opinion, there is nothing fresher than a natural flush to the face in Spring.
If you’re sticking to the dewy finish, try out a cream blush. My personal favourite is the Clinique Chubby Stick blush (I have the shade Robust Rhubarb), which I have mentioned often. It’s easy to apply and oh so natural. There are cheaper alternatives though – Savvy do a cream blush that is really nice. I can’t go past my favourite Mecca Max cream face trio either, which I’ve raved about here and here.
In terms of powder blushes, keep the look fresh by using a shimmery blush over a flat matte blush. I love Nars Orgasm blush for this reason, it’s iconic for that flushed, fresh look. The Benefit Galifornia blush also has a lovely shimmer through it. For budget babes, try the Essence Satin Touch blushes – they aren’t shimmery, but they aren’t matte either. Those blushes are ridiculously inexpensive and are some of the best blushes on the market in my opinion.
On a similar note to above, I’m all about the shimmers in Spring. Ditch the mattes just for this season, I know you can do it. Cover yourself in highlight, use light shimmers on your eyes, and opt for a glossy or creamy lip.
I love the NYX Strobe of Light palette (I use it on my face and eyes), as well as my usual go-to champagne highlighters (Mary-Lou, I’m looking at you). The NYX palette offers some cool colours to play with – I love using the lilac and blush shades to create some fun, fresh looks.
I don’t even need to mention my love of tinted lip oils and balms, so I always recommend them, especially for Spring. Transform your matte lipsticks with a gloss or tint over top to freshen the look up. This ties in so well with a lighter coverage look that is all about the flushed, natural glow.
Pop of Colour
I love pops of colour on the lips and nails for Spring. There is just something so fresh about a simple glowy makeup look with big lashes and a bright lip. This is my signature look for the warmer months. Opt for bright lipsticks in a creamy finish – embrace pink, coral, and bright reds.
On the nails, I love cheery pastels in pink, purple, and coral. My favourite nail polishes are from Essie, Sally Hansen, and Rimmel. If you can match your lip colour to your nail colour then you’re really winning at life.
Last but not least, spritz yourself with a flirty, floral perfume and then go have a picnic with your besties. I love to change up my perfume seasonally – I choose deeper, more sexy fragrances for the Winter months, and then switch to lighter, fresh scents for Spring and Summer. I’m using Be Beautiful by Jessica Mauboy at the moment – it’s inexpensive but really nice and fresh, perfect for those on a budget. I also love my rose scented perfume from The Body Shop – I think this particular fragrance from their Atlas Mountain Rose range has been discontinued, but they do have a new British Rose collection which is essentially the same.
