Happy Sunday, my loves! I haven’t done a #ShopMyStash post in a while, so this week I thought I would choose a neglected beauty product in my collection to show some love to for a week and then write a little review on it. I have done this kind of post a couple of times before, so if you’d like to read them as well, you can find them here and here.
This week I looked to my lipsticks and I must say that I neglect quite a lot of my lip products – it’s a bad habit. I chose to use my Gerard Cosmetics lipstick in the shade “Rodeo Drive”. Read on to find out my thoughts…
I bought this lipstick quite a few years ago (I know, I know, products expire, I should really get rid of it) after seeing Jaclyn Hill rave about the brand, and in particular this shade of lipstick, back in the day. I think at the time I purchased a lip gloss as well but I have since thrown that away because I found the formula to be so sticky and unpleasant. ANYWAY. I bought the lipstick off the Gerard Cosmetics website but you can also buy the brand on Adore Beauty and Beauty Bay as well. It looks like these lipsticks are currently on sale through the GC website as well – for $10.00 USD, which is not bad.
The lipstick is described as a satin finish, in a “medium rosy pink hue” with “an opaque and creamy texture”. It is a satin finish for sure, the colour description is spot on, and it is opaque as well, just not super creamy. It’s still comfortable, don’t get me wrong, but I have just used creamier lipsticks.
~ I know I always say this, but the packaging is hella cute. I love that gold, it’s completely Instagram-able.
~ The colour is really flattering and I think it would suit many different skin tones. For the record, I am fair with cool undertones, and I really love the shade on myself – it’s definitely not a nude but it is neutral. I think it’s perfect to wear in any season as well.
~ The formula is relatively comfortable and long-wearing.
~ It’s fairly affordable and there are often sales and bundles with this brand.
~ The brand is a little questionable – apparently someone from the brand was body shaming a follower, which prompted affiliates (like Jaclyn Hill) to cut ties with them.
~ The smell of the lipstick is a little… cheap. I don’t quite know how to describe the scent, but it’s kind of like plastic, and I do notice it.
~ The formula is comfortable initially but I find that it does dry my lips a little if I wear it for long periods of time and re-apply.
Overall, I rate this particular lipstick from Gerard Cosmetics a 7/10. Using this lipstick for a week and writing this review made me realise that I don’t dislike this product at all, I just reach for other lip products more for whatever reason. It’s just one of those meh products for me at the end of the day, and I’ll probably dispose of it soon as it is quite old (whoops!).
Have you tried anything from Gerard Cosmetics? Let me know in the comments below if I’m missing out on something amazing!
Thanks for reading huns. Until next time,
