Welcome back to my blog! After a little hiatus last week, I am back with my September 2017 Favourites! If you’d like to read some other monthly favourites posts, click here. I’m happy we’re a month into Spring in Australia – I have been loving the warmer weather and the change that brings to my beauty routine. But enough about the weather, let’s dive into my favourite products this month!
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
I purchased this product towards the end of Winter here. I’d come off the pill and started to break out, which caused me to start using some harsher cleansers targeted at acne. This then caused my skin to dry and flake pretty badly, so I purchased this to boost my skin’s hydration levels. Wow, talk about a fast worker. Within a day or two of using this, my skin was plump, hydrated, and glowing. It was incredible.
I have continued to use this daily and my skin loves it. I use it at night and my skin looks like a baby’s bum the next morning. If that doesn’t sell you on how good this product is, I don’t know what will.
Mecca Max Bring on Bright Illuminating Primer
I have written about this product before in my Mecca Max haul and review. My first impressions were pretty good, but I wasn’t obsessed… yet. With the aforementioned dry skin debacle, I started reaching for all my glowy products to combat the dry skin. This being my only illuminating primer, I used it once and haven’t stopped. Seeing as I only have a mini size (it was a gift with purchase) I know I am going to need to go out and buy the full size ASAP.
This little primer is glow goals. It leaves a tacky base, which makeup adheres to for a flawless base that lasts. It also smells like green apples. AMAZING.
A few beauty bloggers I follow rave about various mascaras from Essence. I was always sceptical though. How good could a $5 mascara be? Never mind the fact that I am obsessed with everything from Essence I have already tried (blushes, brow gels, nail polish) despite the low price tag. For some reason, I was getting high and mighty about mascara.
I picked up two mascaras from the brand when Priceline had 40% off cosmetics (because apparently they just weren’t cheap enough for me when full price…). My expectations were pretty high, because I’d heard so many good things about them. On first use, my expectations plummeted to the ground. This mascara was pretty clumpy and took a bit of work. It seemed like this $5 mascara was living up to its price tag.
However, despite the slightly-longer-than-normal application time, I loved the result. Like, loved deeply and emotionally. This mascara claims to hold a curl, which for me and my straight lashes, is a one-way ticket to holy grail status (but only if it actually works). Well, it worked. My lashes looked long and full and curled, and they looked great all day. I was impressed. Yes, it’s a little clumpy and wet at first, but if you just take care the results are truly worth it. It does flake slightly, but it’s nothing I can’t live with. I’ve been reaching for this mascara lots in the past month.
For those interested, I also picked up the Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara and I do like it, just not as much as this one!
The Good Wife
Turning to my non-beauty favourites now – I have been obsessed with this show for the last month. I had heard from a couple of different people that it was worth watching and I finally found the time to start last month. I’m only up to season two, so no spoilers if you have watched it all!
The Good Wife is currently streaming all seven seasons on Netflix. It started in 2009 and finished last year. It’s all about Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) learning to live with the infidelity of her husband Peter Florrick (Chris Noth) which played out in a very public manner. Alicia is a lawyer who goes back to work after the scandal, and the episodes currently follow cases she is working on, interspersed with her personal drama. I am living for crime/court room dramas at the moment so this is really feeding that addiction for me. I love it!
Australian True Crime podcast
I told you I’ve been obsessed with crime dramas lately, and I wasn’t lying. This has also been consuming much of my spare time (usually spent sitting on the bus). It’s pretty obvious from the title, but this is a podcast hosted by Meshel Laurie and Emily Webb about Australian true crime stories. It’s super fascinating and chilling and shocking all at once. If this sort of thing interests you, I highly recommend checking it out. I’ve been getting back into listening to podcasts while travelling and I’ve been enjoying it immensely.
That concludes my September 2017 Favourites! Thanks so much for reading. Let me know what products you have been loving lately in the comments below!
