Hey everyone, welcome back! This year I’ll be doing a monthly favourites on my blog – you know the drill, each month I’ll rant and rave about the beauty products I have been loving for the past month. I cannot believe January is almost over (I feel like I’m going to say that about every month though…). Anyway, let’s get into it.
First up is the Sleek ‘All Day Soireé’ eye and cheek palette. This palette is kind of hit and miss for me – but the hits are amazing so that’s why it made it into my favourites for this month. The eyeshadow shades (which don’t have individual names, bit annoying) are incredible. The eyeshadow shades are the four smaller pans, and each colour is beautiful. The taupe brown shade (second from the left, bottom row) is actually incredible, though it looks a bit boring and flat in the pan, it blends into a gorgeous colour that is really flattering on the eyes – I was pleasantly surprised! The shimmer shades in this palette are spot on. They don’t settle into fine lines or creases, and are so smooth and shiny. I love them.
The shade in the top left hand corner is meant to be a blush, but it is actually a highlighter. It is beautiful. Sleek are famous for their highlighters and this one is no exception, it’s really pretty. The only downfall of the palette is the blush (bottom right), which isn’t that pigmented, and isn’t my favourite blush shade anyway. The smell of this product also seems a little cheap – it kind of smells like make up I used to play with as a child from the $2 shop, which is sort of nice and nostalgic, but also slightly off-putting.
I picked this palette up from Target for $24.95. Unfortunately you can’t buy this online through Target (and it’s also very difficult to find in store as well). Sleek is also sold through Sephora, but this particular palette was not listed on the Sephora Australia website. You can find this palette through the Sleek website here (this was the only place I could find this palette online!).
The packaging is really nice, and it’s a travel friendly size. The colour and blendability of the eyeshadows are what sold me on this palette, as well as the simplicity of the shades (easy to create an everyday look).
Another makeup related favourite for the month of January was definitely my Revlon Colourburst Lacquer Balms in the shades 135 Provocateur Femme Fatale and 130 Tease Seductrice. These balms are incredible! They are nourishing and comfortable to wear, like a lip balm, but are ultra pigmented, bright, and have a slight glossy finish, making them perfect for summer days. As these wear off, they leave a stain to the lips, meaning you rarely need to reapply – the colour looks great all day. On top of that, they have a really nice minty scent, which I LOVE in a lip product. I have been wearing these to work every day, they are easy to apply with their pencil shape and last well through an 8 hour day. I cannot rave about this lip product enough – I highly recommend!
I bought mine from Priceline – they retail for $17.95 but I got mine on sale for $10.77 (Priceline regularly do great sales on these brands). You can find these lip lacquers online through Priceline here.
A nail polish I was loving in January was the Essence strengthening nail polish, only $4.10 from Target or Priceline! You can shop this online through Priceline here.
It comes in a range of pastel shades – I picked up the lilac 03 Happy Nails (which sometimes looks like a baby pink) and the peach 02 I Care For You (which sometimes looks like a nude/pink). I bought this because I saw that Essie came out with Colour + Care nail polishes, but I couldn’t find them anywhere. While I was searching for the Essie polish, I came across the Essence, which is a similar concept. For the price, I couldn’t say no, and I was pleasantly surprised. My nails are quite brittle and thin lately after having gel manicures for a few months, but this nail polish helped strengthen them and lasted a decent amount of time on my nails. The shade range is cute and I also like the brush and how it applied. I recommend picking this polish up if you can, it is so inexpensive and is supposedly all natural as well. Really impressed!
Turning to some skin care now, I really loved the Frank Body coffee lip scrub in January. I had only ever tried Lush’s lip scrubs and found them to be quite harsh and not very effective (though extremely yummy!). This is an oil based scrub and is so gentle and nourishing, I don’t need to apply a balm afterwards because my lips are so hydrated from the oil. If you don’t like coffee, you won’t like this product – it smells strongly of sweet iced coffee, which I love, but is not everyone’s cup of, erm, coffee. I bought this scrub from Mecca for $10.95 (shop it here) and I highly recommend using it before applying a liquid lipstick – it is a beautiful product and I will never go back to the Lush one now (sorry Lush, I still love you).
Last but not least is the Palmer’s Facial Cleansing Oil. I had been using the Trilogy ‘Make Up Be Gone’ Cleansing Balm but found it a bit difficult to remove (it wouldn’t just wash off with water, but needed a soft cloth, which is fine, but it was just an extra step and I went through lots of soft cloths because they would be filthy so quickly). I wanted something more oil based, as opposed to a solid (ish) balm, and I wanted something inexpensive to trial. I looked at the Simple Cleansing Oil (didn’t come in a pump bottle, huge con), and also the Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil (bit more expensive and looked the same as the Palmer’s anyway). I settled on the Palmer’s, which retails for $14.99 from Priceline (currently unavailable online, but you can read more about it here).
It claims to be “ultra gentle” and it is – it is effective at removing my make-up and it leaves my skin feeling so soft. It doesn’t leave any residue (which the Trilogy one did do), and it’s so quick and easy to use. The one downside that people may not like is the scent – it is quite a strong sweet scent of the essential oils, which didn’t worry me too much, but might annoy other people. All in all, this product was a staple in my skin care routine for the month of January, I used it every day!
So, that’s it for my January favourites. What products were you loving in January? Leave a comment below and I’ll be sure to check them out!
