Hello lovely readers! Welcome back to another Empties post! This is Empties III – you can read I and II right here if you’re interested in these sorts of posts (I know I am). I’ve managed to hoard quite a few empty products over the last couple of months since my last post, I’m quite proud. My little bag of rubbish even survived moving house! #LifeOfABeautyBlogger
Unfortunately there are no makeup products in this round of Empties – just lots of skin care and hair care. Makeup is so difficult to finish up – hopefully Empties IV will include some makeup! Let’s get started…
Batiste Dry Shampoo in Marrakech
I really like the formula of Batiste dry shampoos – I usually use them on my final day before washing my hair. They give one day of extra freshness but I find I can’t push it past just the one day. That is completely fine with me though. This scent is really nice but I have no way to describe it myself. I’ve seen it described as a spicy scent, and it’s clearly inspired by the fragrances of Marrakech in Morocco. I do prefer the Rose Gold fragrance over this one, but it’s certainly not terrible.
Yes, but only if the Rose Gold or Cherry fragrances weren’t available.
Matrix Total Results Color Obsessed Antioxidant Shampoo
I have used Matrix products before and I have nothing to complain about with them. This shampoo lasted me ages and it did a good job of cleansing my hair without drying it out. I have coloured hair and I found this particular shampoo to be really nourishing. It smells nice too and is relatively affordable.
Yes. I’m always keen to try new hair products and usually always buy a new shampoo to try but I liked this one and would use it again happily.
Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It (H)air Styler
I really love this hair product – it’s perfect for those people who CBF styling their hair with hot tools and millions of products (me). I combed this cream through my wet hair and voila! That’s it. It gave some texture and style to my hair with literally zero effort from me. It wasn’t heavy and didn’t make my hair oily. It controlled frizz and just generally made my hair look good. I had the little travel size of this and it lasted me ages as well.
Lush Body Conditioner in Snow Fairy
I love the concept of the body conditioners from Lush. I really hate using traditional moisturisers on my body but I know the importance of looking after all of your skin. This is an in-shower cream that you rub all over your body after using soap/shower gel and then you wash it off. Your skin feels so soft and hydrated after using this. I love using this when I shave my legs as well. Snow Fairy is a limited edition Christmas scent that they bring back every year. It’s super sweet – like fairy floss – and it’s a gorgeous pink colour.
Yes. I love the body conditioners and always have one in rotation. This scent is really nice and I’ll be sure to pick it up again when it’s back.
Lush Shower Gel in Plum Rain
I think this is also a limited edition scent from Lush. As you can imagine, it’s super fruity and fresh. I really like the scent of it – perfect for summer. I love the Lush shower gels in general because they lather so well with hardly any product (thus, they last a really long time) and they are all natural. They have been my favourite formula for years.
If they had this scent again, yes I would. I always like to try new Lush shower gels though, so it’s rare that I repurchase the same scent straight away.
Lush Hand Cream in Helping Hands
I have spoken about this life saver cream before – in my Evening Skin Care post. It has been a staple for years, especially in winter. My hands get pretty bad chill blains in winter and crack horribly. I have tried many different creams and all of them stung and made the problem worse. Not this moisturiser. It is so nourishing and heavy-duty and it prevents chill blains from happening if I use it every night. It can be quite greasey so I use it last thing before bed.
Yes, I cannot live without this stuff in the cooler months. It’s the middle of summer here now so I’m using something a bit less hardcore but as soon as that is out I’ll be repurchasing this one in preparation.
Harvest Garden Gentle Facial Scrub with Calendula & Goats Milk
I have also written about this cleanser, in my Morning Skin Care post. It’s from a lovely Aussie brand called Harvest Garden and they make my favourite facial mask of all time. I highly recommend you check out their website. This cleanser was gifted to me by the brand many months ago and I genuinely love it. It’s an all-natural powder cleanser that you mix with water (or a facial oil) to create a paste. It very gently exfoliates while also hydrating the skin. It’s magical. I used it every morning and I just loved it.
Powder cleansers can be a little messier than cream or gel cleansers but that is a minor detail.
Yes, this was a lovely gentle every day cleanser that I think would suit a variety of skin types. It worked on my dry winter skin and also on my oily blemish-prone summer skin.
Origins Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask
This product is so good! I have had this product for ages, and I only purchased the travel size, and it only just ran out. Such good value. It’s an overnight sleeping mask that is designed to deeply hydrate your skin. I used it about once per week. This stuff smells incredible. It’s quite thick but sinks into the skin quickly. I loved using this when my skin was drier but it also worked wonders when I had a lot of blemishes and was using harsher products on my skin.
Yes, especially for use in the cooler months.
The Ordinary Buffet Serum
I’m sure everyone knows by now how much I love this serum. I feel like I rave about it all the time. Unsuprisingly, this is the most expensive The Ordinary serum (breaking the bank at around $25 AUD!) but it’s the best one I have tried, hands down. It’s basically a lovely anti-ageing cocktail for your face. It has made my skin texture so much better, it hydrates my skin, while also helping smooth out fine lines. It’s a lightweight serum that I use in the evening at this stage (just because I am trying to ration my bottle out). Used twice a day though is perfection – as soon as I have a back up I’ll be using it more often for sure.
Yes… what a shocker!
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
It’s my quest to try everything The Ordinary has to offer, which is the main reason I picked this serum up a few months ago. Also because I am breaking out a lot more now and this serum claims to fight blemishes. Did it prevent blemishes? No. Did it heal them faster? I don’t think so. I’m not really sure what this serum did, to be honest. I don’t think it did much in the way of clearing my skin. According to some, niacinamide is actually great for anti-ageing, but I don’t think it did much in that department either (not compared to the noticeable results I get from the Buffet serum).
No. It’s cheap, don’t get me wrong, but I just didn’t see any difference in my skin while I was using this serum for a few months. I’m happy to stick to my Buffet serum and give this one a miss in the future.
That concludes my third Empties post! Have you tried any of these products? What did you think of them? My trash (literally) could be your treasure!
