Introducing my very first Empties post! I’ll be reviewing some products that I have used up completely and decide whether I would repurchase them or not.
I have been reluctant to start doing these types of posts, as I cannot stand the thought of saving my rubbish and creating clutter in my home. However, I really enjoy reading Empties posts that other bloggers write. I thought it would be a great way to review some products that I might not otherwise talk about. These posts will not be regular or monthly by any means – I’ll just write them up once I have a good amount of products to review.
Let’s get into it!
The Ordinary Buffet Serum
I have mentioned this product before, so I won’t go into too much detail about it. You can read about this product in my Morning Skin Care Routine post. This is a multi-peptide serum that targets the signs of ageing. I definitely noticed that some fine lines on my forehead were less noticeable when I was using this serum. Overall, my skin texture was much better while using this serum as well. I really enjoyed using this product and have nothing negative to say about it!
I said in my Morning Skin Care Routine post that I would definitely repurchase this product. And I will. Just not yet. I have another product that I need to try out and use consistently before I repurchase this serum and introduce it back into my routine. I can definitely see a difference in my skin when I’m not using this product though, so I am eager to re-introduce it soon.
Avène Eau Thermale Thermal Spring Water
Some of you may know that I work in a dermatologist clinic. Avène representatives often meet with the doctor and leave samples – this was one of those samples. I use this product to prepare my skin for facial oils. Sometimes rubbing oil on dry skin can be difficult – so I like to spritz a little of this onto my face and then rub oils in to help with absorption and fluidity. I also use this as a refresher on a warm day. It’s designed to be used as a toner or anti-inflammatory spray on sensitive skin.
If I was paying for this product with my own money, probably not. It is expensive for what it is. I do enjoy using this, but I could live without it. In saying that, I have more bottles of this to use from work, which is great.
Lush Cosmetics Shower Gel in Don’t Rain On My Parade
I believe this shower gel from Lush is discontinued (or about to be). It’s described as blueberry and vanilla, which I was drawn to. I also had not tried this gel before and I’m keen to try everything from Lush at least once. I didn’t smell a whole lot of blueberry or vanilla in this, which was disappointing. It actually smelt a lot like men’s body wash, rather than the sweet scent I was imagining. The actual gel is great – I only ever use shower gels from Lush because the quality is so good. I just wasn’t a huge fan of this scent, and gave the last bit to my partner to use.
Even if it was still available, no. It wasn’t my favourite scent at all, and I was really glad when I could buy a different gel to use.
Patchology Illuminate FlashMasque 5 Minute Facial Sheet
This is a brightening sheet mask that I got for my birthday a couple of months ago and only used recently. The shape of the mask is really nice. It’s a very wet sheet mask with loooots of serum, which is always a plus for me (better value for money, I think). When applied, this mask was instantly cooling and refreshing. It’s a pretty quick mask – you can leave it on for only five minutes, but I left mine on for around 15-20 minutes.
This claims to brighten your complexion and even skin tone in just a few minutes. My skin was looking very dull and uneven when I used this mask. I noticed a little difference right after using this mask but nothing that blew me away. My skin looked OK the following day, but again, nothing amazing. I think this mask might be nice if you did use it just before applying makeup for an event to give your skin a temporary boost of brightness.
Maybe, but I prefer other sheet masks that are a little cheaper and more effective. I don’t think I’ll repurchase any time soon.
Clinique Chubby in the Nude Foundation Stick
I wrote an entire #ShopMyStash review on this product, so again, I won’t go on about it too much here. I didn’t love this foundation stick, only because of the extremely sheer coverage it provided (particularly when paired with a higher price tag). This foundation was used in conjunction with my BB and CC creams to create a lovely finish to my skin – it just wasn’t enough to use alone.
No. For the price tag, this product simply wasn’t worth it. It provided next to no coverage and was not very economical. I really loved certain aspects of this product but I have no doubt I will find a better alternative in the future.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
I had a little travel sized version of this that I got around Christmas time – these mascaras only last six months so it was definitely time to get rid of this guy. Though not technically “empty”, it was getting pretty dry and it had expired anyway. I did like this mascara. It’s a cult favourite for a reason – it fanned out my lashes while giving a lot of volume and it held a curl fairly well throughout the day. I didn’t find this flaky until it started to dry out in the last month or so. It can be a little messy to apply as the wand is quite big (but I have hooded eyes, so mascara application is often messy for me regardless).
Around the same time I decided it was time to let this mascara go, I got another mini sized one in my Mecca Beauty Loop box. I was really happy with this, because I did enjoy this mascara and use it quite often. I wouldn’t purchase the full sized mascara because I think there are better alternatives for a much cheaper price. However, I may purchase the smaller size in the future because it is a pretty nice mascara.
I did talk about this dry shampoo in my February Favourites post this year – I really enjoyed this product. I love that “TRESemmé scent” and this did a good job of making my hair look and feel clean on the final day before washing. It didn’t weigh my hair down or leave a white cast to my hair either.
In my favourites post I said I definitely would repurchase this product, and I think I will in the future. I was sent quite a number of Batiste dry shampoos a few months ago so I need to get through those before purchasing any more dry shampoo bottles. This product is inexpensive, easy to find, and pretty effective. I’d buy it again!
That concludes my first Empties post! I’m really excited to do some more of these posts in the future – let me know if you liked this post or not in the comments below.
