Mascara is one of those beauty products (along with a good BB cream and some brow gel) that instantly makes me feel better and more presentable. In high school, mascara was literally the only makeup I would wear.
Below are my current mascaras in my makeup collection that I have been using and loving. I try not to have too many mascaras open at once as they expire so quickly and I have sensitive eyes anyway. Enjoy!
First up, we have my Urban Decay ‘Perversion’ mascara. I bought the travel size of this from Mecca, as I wanted to trial the mascara, and also I prefer buying smaller sizes of products as I am more likely to use them up before they expire and avoid wasting product. The travel size is only $16.00, which I think is a great price to pay for a ‘higher end’ mascara. The full size is $36.00, which I still think is reasonable.
This mascara claims to deliver “bigger, badder, blacker” lashes, and I must say it does just that. When I first saw the wand, I was a little intimidated, as I usually prefer a slimmer wand that isn’t too fluffy/clumpy. This wand is beautiful. It fans out my lashes and gives them amazing volume, which is something I really like. In terms of lengthening, it did OK. The mascara was black, but I have dark lashes anyway so didn’t really see a huge difference in the colour. I really love this mascara as it applies so well and isn’t clumpy at all (a real pet peeve of mine). It feels quite luxurious to use, and I think I will definitely repurchase.
Next up is the iconic Too Faced ‘Better Than Sex’ mascara. This is the newest mascara in my collection – I have the small travel size that came with my Grande Hotel Cafe holiday set. I was really wary to try this mascara, because even though A LOT of people rave about it, my friend tried it once and found it really clumpy and she hated it. The brush has always intimidated me, and I assumed it would clump my lashes together and look really messy (which some people love and some people hate).
I’m not sure if it is because of the smaller size, but I love this mascara! I don’t find it messy or clumpy at all. It makes my lashes look amazing and it holds a curl really well. I find myself reaching for this mascara the most now. The wand is very similar to the Ciaté ‘Wonderwand’ except it is a bit bigger and the formula of the product is not as wet. The full size mascara retails for $33.00 from Mecca. I really want to repurchase this, but I am worried about whether I’ll still like the mascara with the bigger wand.
Next, we have the Rimmel ‘Lash Accelerator Endless’ mascara, which I picked up from Priceline on a whim after I recognised the name from one of Nicole Guerriero’s videos. It retails for $17.95 (but I may have bought it while it was on sale). It claims a “grow lash complex + fibres”, so I assumed it would be super lengthening. When I first tried this mascara, I actually disliked it, I thought it made my lashes clumpy and the product was transferring everywhere. However, the second and third times I used it, I absolutely loved it. I make sure only to apply a small amount to avoid that wet clumpy look. This mascara gives great length and separation, and it also holds a curl really well, despite not being waterproof.
*Quick disclaimer: My lashes are extremely straight, so I always use a lash curler before applying mascara. Most of the time, my lashes will drop throughout the day, but I find with this Rimmel mascara that my lashes actually stay lifted for hours on end, which I love.
This mascara is now my go-to on days when I am wearing minimal makeup. I usually just apply this mascara to my top lashes for a more awake look — it makes my eyes look fresher and brighter, and I love it. I would definitely repurchase.
Lastly, we have the Ciaté London ‘Wonderwand’ mascara. I received this travel sized mascara as part of the Chloe Morello x Ciaté Beauty Haul (which includes an eyeshadow palette, the small mascara, a small travel sized liquid lipstick, and a lovely little purse/pouch. You can read my full review here). The full size of this volumising mascara from Mecca is $31.00 (but it is currently unavailable online, which is a shame). This little mascara is beautiful — it is quite heavy and really coats the lashes well, making them very black and voluminous. I like wearing this mascara for nights out or special events, as they give a more dramatic look to your lashes. Still completely wearable though, and the packaging is gorgeous. I may repurchase this in the future, but I would be more likely to repurchase the other three before this one.
So that’s it from me! I really hope this was helpful and maybe gave you some ideas of what mascara to try next. I am always trying new products and hunting around for that perfect one, so let me know what mascaras you love and I’ll be sure to check them out!
