Welcome back, lovely readers! I feel like it’s been ages since I have done a skin care review so I’m really excited about today’s post. I’ll be reviewing the b.liv Deep Impact Cleanser which was kindly sent to me a few months ago.* I’ve been using this cleanser consistently in the mornings for about 10 weeks now and ~spoiler alert~ I’m pretty happy with the results.
About the brand
b.liv (pronounced “believe”) styles itself as the pores management specialist and promotes the idea of healthy pores, healthy skin. The brand was established in 2009 from a cosmeceutical brand and is more widely available and known in the Asian market – particularly in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and China. They believe in providing over-the-counter skincare that is tried and tested rigorously and models salon treatments and products. The brand does not test on animals.
About the product
This cleanser is described as a “deep pores cleansing and massage emulsion” that targets blackheads by providing a deep cleanse and purification of the pores. Some key ingredients listed for this cleanser are jojoba esters, witch hazel extract, aloe leaf extract, citric acid, tea tree leaf oil, and kaolin. The product packaging claims:
It’s time to bring your inner beauty out into the world. This cleanser delves deep to expel imperfections to reveal the true beauty of your skin as it cleanses and massages your face to porcelain perfection. It also gently but effectively exfoliates and clarifies your skin. Your real beauty can now shine inside out.
The cleanser is white and creamy with tiny little beads throughout it to gently exfoliate the skin. It comes in practical plastic tube packaging which is hygienic and easy to travel with. The Deep Impact Cleanser retails for $25.00 US but is currently on sale for $12.50 US. It is available through the b.liv website, which has many other products on offer as well.
My skin type
Before I give my full review, I want to talk about my skin type so you can get a better understanding of how this product worked for me. While I was on hormonal contraception was skin was very much normal. In the middle half of last year I stopped taking hormonal contraception and my skin became much oilier and I experienced more break outs. I wouldn’t say I am super oily but I am definitely towards that end of the spectrum now as opposed to being dry (as I tended to be before). I have slightly enlarged pores on my nose, but I can live with it. My skin is not too sensitive either – I haven’t had many bad reactions from products before.
As I said earlier, I have used this cleanser daily for 10 weeks now. I used it as part of my morning skin care routine and found it very gentle for an exfoliating, pore-targeting product. This feels really creamy on the skin as you massage it in – it doesn’t foam up greatly, but you can certainly feel it on your skin. I use a small pea-sized amount and that seems to be the perfect amount for me. I can feel the tiny exfoliating beads as I cleanse but they are not abrasive in any way and slowly dissolve down to nothing the more I massage the product in.
After use my skin feels clean and surprisingly hydrated. It does not feel dry or irritated in any way. My larger pores do not seem to be visibly reduced after using this product – even after 10 weeks of consistent use I’m not sure my pores have reduced in size at all. However, I do think this cleanser has helped control my oil production and shine. Sure, it could be that my skin is settling down now after withdrawing from hormones, but this change has happened around the same time as using this cleanser, so it’s more possible that this cleanser is to thank. I really enjoy the gentle exfoliation this provides. I don’t like using harsh scrubby exfoliants – when I do, it’s usually just once per week – so this was perfect for daily use. This did not seem to reduce my break outs unfortunately. They still came quite frequently in much the same way as they always do.
For those of you who like a harsher, more intense exfoliator than this product may disappoint you. If you have dry skin, this product may not be for you either. If you are like me though and have some oiliness then I think this cleanser is a great one to try. It’s relatively affordable and it’s a good basic, every day cleanser that helped control my oil (which is always nice). I would purchase this product again and I would also try some more products that b.liv have to offer – their website (linked above) is really cute and easy to navigate.
That concludes my review of the b.liv Deep Impact Cleanser. Have you tried this product before or heard of the brand? What is your favourite cleanser? Let me know if there is an amazing oil-control one that doesn’t dry your skin out there! I’m always up for trying new things.
*This product was sent to me free of charge by the brand; however, they did not ask me to write a blog post on the product and I do not profit from this post. This represents my own opinions on the product and is not impacted by the brand in any way.
