Welcome back to another Monthly Favourites post! August went by super quick, or is it just me who thinks that? To find out my August 2017 Favourites, keep on reading.
Mecca Max Triple Threat Face Shaper (Cream)
I wrote a whole post dedicated to reviewing some of the new Mecca Max goodies I picked up – you can read it here. I was really on the fence about this product when I first purchased it. I’ve been using it for the past month though and have decided I like it! I was unsure about this palette because it is so shimmery, but that has turned out to be one of the reasons I’ve been drawn to this palette lately. I stopped taking the pill at the start of August and it has sent my skin into a meltdown. It’s dry, flaky, and breaking out. Therefore, I’ve been turning to the glowy products to combat the dryness on my face and this palette has been perfect for that. I stated in my review that I was unsure how this would perform in Summer, and I’m still unsure. For this last little bit of Winter though I’ve been loving it. I’m actually interested in picking up the powder version of this palette because the colours are lovely.
Australis x KPOP Lip Oil Tint in Coco
This is a new addition to my collection. I picked this up in the Priceline 40% off cosmetics sale mid-August. It has quickly become an everyday favourite. If you couldn’t tell already, I love tinted lip oils and balms. When I saw this new product from Australis (btw, they have a whole range of goodies inspired by Korean beauty trends) I knew I had to have it. It comes in three shades: Coco (orange), Mimi (red), and Gigi (pink). I picked up Coco because I like that orange/coral tint.
These look scary in the tube but are much more subdued on the lips. It’s really nourishing and glossy and as it wears off, it leaves a slight stain, which I really like (it means you don’t have to reapply as much). These are really affordable too (especially on sale!) so I’ll definitely be picking up the other shades when I see them on sale next.
This is very similar to the tinted lip oil by Mecca Max, which I reviewed in the post linked above. I do prefer this one to the Mecca Max one as I find it more moisturising and long-lasting. I believe it’s a couple of dollars more expensive than the Mecca one, but I do think it is worth it.
Stila Matte ‘N Metal Eyeshadow Palette
This was a little treat to myself – I had been eyeing this palette off for a while and finally splurged with my tax money in July. I am so glad I bought it. It is a stunning palette, with the top six shades matte and the bottom six metallic. I love this mix of finishes, it’s so easy to create looks. The packaging is luxe, the shades are soft, creamy, and blend beautifully. There is no fall out or kick back with this formula. It wears very well throughout the day (although I do always use an eye primer). This is now my go-to glam palette for an easy but beautiful look.
The one negative I have to say about this palette is that I’m a little paranoid around it. My sister owns one of the Eyes Are The Window palettes from Stila, and basically all of those shades have shattered as the palette is very fragile. I am very careful with my makeup but I am even more so with this palette. If I drop it, it’s done for. For that reason, I probably won’t travel with this palette, which is a shame. It’s just not worth shattering the pans.
Rebel Kate Menstrual Cup
This is something a little different for me. I usually stick to just beauty products in my favourites posts, but I want to branch out and start including other monthly favourites outside this category. What better way to start this than by divulging about my menstrual flow! Seriously though, I had been umm-ing and ahh-ing about transitioning to a menstrual cup for a while.
Menstrual cups are 100% silicone and designed to replace regular pads and tampons. The benefits are numerous. They are better for the environment and create far less waste (they claim to last a couple of years at least), they are cost effective (pads and tampons are so expensive every month), they are comfortable and safe to use, and they are super convenient!
I honestly could rave about these for a very long time if you let me. When using a menstrual cup for the first time it does take practice and patience, but by the end of my first cycle using one I was so happy I stuck with it. I purchased my menstrual cup through Rebel Kate, and here’s the kicker. It was free. I just paid for postage. That’s it. I got two cups (one small – for women who haven’t had children, and one large – for women who have had children) for free. Part of the reason why I was hesitant to make the switch is because all of the other cups I had seen were around $60 AUD (which is a bit to fork out when you’re unsure you’ll even be able to use it comfortably). Purchasing through Rebel Kate was a no-brainer. What did I have to lose? Around $15 in shipping, which I could live with.
This is not sponsored or anything like that – Rebel Kate have no idea who I am. I just think this is an incredibly good deal and I really endorse this product for all of the above mentioned benefits. I’m so happy I made the switch. I really recommend Rebel Kate if you’re interested in trying a menstrual cup out.
While I’m branching out a bit, here’s a website I’ve been digging this last month! Reviews.com is, yep, you guessed it, a website full of reviews! I love reviews, and I’m guessing you do too, otherwise why are you here?? This website intrigued me. I am always curious to know what other people think of a product. This website collates reviews and rigorously tests products to determine the best, the number one in the category. Want to know what the best facial cleanser is? How about the best mascara? This website kept me entertained for quite some time (if you’re a review junkie like me). They don’t just review beauty products though, but any type of product. So it’s super interesting and I’ve found myself consulting with this website regularly throughout August.
That concludes my favourite products for August! Let me know what products you were loving last month in the comments below!
