I had been stalking the Adore Beauty website for months before I finally caved and placed an order a few weeks ago. It was a relatively small order just to test the waters and I was so impressed with everything that I knew I had to have more, so I placed another order a week later.
Here is my Adore Beauty haul! I’ll just run through what I got quickly, give my first impressions, and swatch some products as well. I hope you enjoy. If you’d like a more in-depth review of any of the products mentioned, let me know in the comments below.
~ The Ordinary skin care: Natural Moisturising Factors + HA, High-Adherence Silicone Primer, and Buffet serum
Everyone is raving about this new skin care brand from Deciem known as The Ordinary. Its sleek, simple packaging is completely Instagram-able and so far I haven’t read any bad reviews. As far as first impressions go, the hype is real with this brand. Obviously it’s difficult to judge skin care without using it for at least a couple of months and it hasn’t been that long yet. But so far I am really enjoying these three products.
The primer is silky smooth and really makes my makeup look amazing for longer. If you like silicone-based primers, you will love this. It smooths out my skin and makes my foundation glide on.
The moisturiser is really nice and is the perfect last step in my skin care routine – it takes away the stickiness/oiliness of serums and oils and makes my face feel moisturised but matte. I’ve been applying it of a morning for that reason – it acts as a good makeup base. The only negative I have to say about this moisturiser so far is that it does pull and tug the skin a little when you’re applying it because of the thick, non-oily texture that dries down quickly.
The Buffet serum is amazing so far. It feels cooling on the skin when you apply it and it does feel quite tacky afterwards so I always follow through with a moisturiser. I have been applying this serum morning and evening for just over a week and I think my skin already looks smoother and has a more even texture. When I apply this at night, my skin feels baby soft in the morning when I wake up. So far, so good. It claims to target fine lines, wrinkles, dynamic lines, textural irregularities and provide surface hydration. After just one week I can definitely see an improvement in texture and hydration levels – I’ll have to wait and see how it performs on fine lines after a longer period of use.
~ Shanghai Suzy Whipped Matte Lipstick: Miss Leah and Miss Cassandra
I am flipping obsessed with these lipsticks – they are my new favourite. Miss Leah is described as a “baby cocoa” and it is the perfect nude shade for my fair cool-toned skin. I thought it would be too brown but it’s got a lovely pink undertone. Miss Cassandra is described as a peony shade and it’s a lovely pink – a little darker than I thought it would be from looking at the website, but beautiful nevertheless. The formula is matte but really moisturising and feels fantastic on the lips. Plus these smell like strawberries! And the packaging is so sleek, with the actual lipstick bullet popping in and out of the lid, it’s really cool! Shanghai Suzy is an Australian brand and their products are vegan and cruelty free. The brand just released some new moisturising lippies for Winter, so I think I definitely need to check those out ASAP.
~ Lanolips Tinted Balm SPF30: Perfect Nude and Rhubarb
These are my favourite lip balms. I already had this in the shade Rose and I love it – it’s so moisturising and doesn’t dry my lips out like some other lip balms do (so contradictory, but that’s what happens). I love the sheer tint these leave and they are also really glossy, they look and feel amazing. Also who doesn’t love SPF30 lip protection?? This stuff is just too good. Adore Beauty had a deal where if you bought one of these lip balms, you got one for free, so I couldn’t resist stocking up. I love these shades – Perfect Nude is as you would expect: very nude and natural. Rhubarb is a little deeper than Rose, but still completely wearable.
~ Hurraw! Lip Balms: Tangerine Chamomile SPF15 lip balm and Blue Chamomile Night lip balm
I have a mild obsession with lip balms, in case you hadn’t guessed. I’ve only recently started wearing lipsticks because for the longest time I couldn’t stand the feeling of anything other than balm on my lips. I had heard really good things about this brand of lip balm and I was curious to try them out – they are super affordable as well as being vegan and cruelty free. I chose the Tangerine Chamomile lip balm as it was the only lip balm with SPF in it. This smells so delicious. I love it. I immediately threw it in my handbag, meaning it’s going to be my new go-to lip balm.
I also wanted to try the Blue Chamomile night lip balm as I love applying a nice thick lip treatment right before bed, especially in the cooler months. This balm also smells incredible, and it feels really nice. It’s slightly thicker than the “day” balms and I wake up with softer lips. Highly recommend these and will definitely repurchase!
~ Benefit Cosmetics: Galifornia blush, mini Gimme Brow, and mini Roller Lash mascara
Ahhh, Galifornia blush. A completely impulsive purchase. I definitely didn’t need this and totally could not justify it, but I had had a really crappy day and I just wanted to reward myself for getting through it. Self love, ya know. So in the cart it went. The packaging is stunning, but the product is slightly disappointing, which is so sad. The beautiful gold in the pan disappeared after my first use – turns out it was just sitting on top of the product, rather than being infused into it as I had thought. But whatever, that’s fine. The blush just lacks pigmentation for me. It is a beautiful shade and I can get it to work but it’s very subtle (and I have incredibly fair skin, so I imagine on anyone darker than me it might be even more difficult). I’ll keep using this regardless, but I think I definitely have better blushes that are far more affordable. This shade is quite comparable to the blush in the Too Faced Sweet Peach Glow palette (review here), and for only a little bit more money, you get a highlighter and bronze shade, which I think is far better value.
Now, onto Gimme Brow. I had tried this product years ago (back when it was in its OG brown packaging) and I loved it. When it ran out I just couldn’t justify repurchasing it though as it is so expensive. The Essence Make Me Brow is a great dupe and I’ve been using that ever since. Benefit had a deal with Adore Beauty though – if you spent $69 or more you got a free deluxe sample of the Roller Lash mascara (which I’ve been dying to try, as mentioned in my High End Wish List). I decided to get the mini Gimme Brow as I knew I loved it, and would use it. I had forgotten just how amazing this product is, and now I’m annoyed at myself because I don’t think I can live without it again. Goodbye money.
The Roller Lash mascara that I got as a free gift is incredible, as I thought it would be. It’s comparable to the Maybelline Lash Sensational, which I own and love, but the brush is smaller, meaning it reaches the root of my lashes easier. I will say that the Roller Lash seems to provide lift and length, whereas the Lash Sensational provides lift and a little more volume. Both are great mascaras, but I do love the Roller Lash, and I can see it becoming my new holy grail mascara.
~ Dr Bronner’s Castille Liquid Soap: Citrus
This is an “Instagram made me buy it” purchase – I saw a couple of beauty bloggers that I follow use this stuff to clean their makeup brushes and sponges and I was really curious to try it out. Previously I have just used warm water and shampoo to wash my brushes (with a little Brush Egg) and I was really keen to evolve from that and try something new. This is made with essential oils and other natural ingredients such as hemp, and it’s incredibly gentle yet effective. The trick is to pour a couple of drops of this liquid soap into a bowl and then swirl your dry dirty makeup brush in it until it lathers. Then rinse until the water runs clear. It took a little bit for me to work it out (I had to Google how best to use this, as my first instinct was to put it into warm water like I had been doing with my shampoo – this was a huge fail). Once I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed cleaning my makeup brushes with this. It left them clean and feeling really soft and conditioned. Honestly, they feel and look brand new. You can also use this soap on your body, or as a cleaning agent in your home – it has heaps of uses and is super affordable and natural. It also comes in many different scents – I picked up the citrus one as I wanted something fresh.
I completely forgot to snap a pic of this product, but it isn’t too exciting to look at anyway – you can view the product here.
Phew! So that’s everything! I was also meant to receive some free samples for spending over $50 but they unfortunately were not included in my package. Other than that, I absolutely loved my Adore Beauty experience – they offer free shipping in Australia, an incredible range of brands, and so many deals and special offers if you sign up and become a member (which is super easy to do).
I am now on a BUY BAN until my birthday (end of May)*. Please pray for me, for I fear I am not strong enough to resist all the amazing products out there.
Thanks so much for reading this essay! Until next time,
* I may have already broken this ban by buying some new false lashes, the Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer (it was in stock and it is never in stock so I just had to!), and I might just go buy the Rimmel Fresher Skin foundation soon because I tried a sample and I absolutely loved it. I HAVE A PROBLEM. I AM TRYING.
