April is done and dusted and now it’s May, which is my birthday month! Yay! Here’s what I was loving in the month of April…
My first favourite for the month is the Revlon x Chloe Morello Sculpt + Highlight contour palette. I flipping love this little palette. I wasn’t expecting to love it either as I wasn’t a big fan of contouring – that’s all changed now. I bought the original Australis contour palette years ago when it first launched and I wasn’t a fan at all – there were too many shades for me and none of them seemed to suit. I ended up getting rid of it because I just never used it.
This palette is the bomb though. With a bronze, contour, brighten, and highlight shade I am not overwhelmed at all. When I first purchased this palette I figured that I would get the most use out of the highlight shade as I was still a bit iffy about contouring. I can safely say that the highlight shade is my least used. I love mixing the bronze and contour shade together to create a subtle contour, and I am obsessed with the yellow brightening powder (which I thought I would hate!). Usually I really dislike those yellow brightening powders as I have fair cool-toned skin and they just never work, plus putting powders under my eyes tend to make them look old and wrinkled.
This powder has completely changed my opinion – I cannot live without it. It makes my under eye area look really nice, and doesn’t settle into those fine lines. The powders are all so soft and finely milled that they are a dream to use. The highlight shade is beautiful as well, and the only reason I don’t use it as much is because I have other highlighters that I tend to reach for. But this one is stunning nevertheless.
Overall, I am head over heels in love with this palette and I’ve been using it every day in April without fail – especially that yellow powder, which I am surely going to hit pan on before any other shade.
Another product I fell in love with in April is The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer, which was part of my Adore Beauty haul (read about it here). This primer is so affordable and so effective. I have slightly enlarged pores on my nose and, thanks to all that Easter chocolate, a few bumps and break outs on my face, and this primer smoothed my skin and made my makeup look flawless despite my less-than-perfect skin. Not only did it make my foundation apply perfectly over top, it also made that foundation look amazing for a longer amount of time than previous primers or setting sprays I have used before. Love it. If you are a fan of silicone-based primers, give this one a try.
I definitely need to mention the Jeffree Star x Manny MUA collaboration in this month’s favourites post as well. I got both liquid lipsticks – I’m Shook and Daddy – and the Skin Frost in Eclipse from Princess Polly Boutique. I was a little disappointed that they didn’t stock the bundle, which made everything a bit cheaper, but I had store credit that brought those items down in price anyway (plus I used Afterpay of course!). These are the first lip and cheek products I have tried from Jeffree Star Cosmetics (the Androgyny palette was the first thing I bought from the brand) and overall I was very impressed. The Skin Frost was a lot chunkier than I expected – I am used to smooth, finely milled highlighters and this isn’t really like that. I was a little surprised, just because I had never seen this aspect mentioned before, and it was the first thing I noticed. I think if you have textured skin you may not like how chunky/glittery this can look. It is still a beautiful colour, and luckily once I tried it out on my skin I liked it. I found this to be blinding only went built up and in the proper lighting, otherwise it was quite subdued and natural, which I like. The pan size is huge, as everyone says, so it really is good value for money.
I absolutely love the liquid lipstick formula – it seems to smooth out my lips and make them look really nice, rather than cracked and dry like most other liquid lipsticks do. They are comfortable to wear and the staying power is good! I also really like the shades – I love a bold lip colour so was instantly drawn to I’m Shook, but Daddy is unexpectedly great as well – it’s bold on my fair skin, but neutral.
Lastly my nail polish fave for April was the L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Le Vernis A L’Huile in the shade Bleu Royal – a deep navy blue. I never usually paint my nails dark colours, but I was really drawn to the navy this past month as the weather cooled. This nail polish applies really nicely and evenly and dries down quick. It has a super shiny finish thanks to the precious oils blended into the mix. The only downside I found with this nail polish is that it chipped quite quickly on me. I used a variety of top coats and nothing seemed to help. After a day or two there would be noticeable chips (usually I can push it to a week with most other nail polishes). It’s still a beautiful polish though, and I used it frequently throughout April.
That’s all for this month! If you like this sort of post, you can find out what I was loving in March here. What products were you loving in April? Let me know in the comments below!
